Waldemart Klyuzko
was born in Kyiv, and is a resident designer with Yara Arts Group at La MaMa Experimental Theatre in New York. With Yara he has created the designs for “Raven” (2011) and “Dream Bridge” (2012) based on poetry by Oleh Lysheha; “Fire Water Night” on themes from Lesia Ukrainka’s “Forest Song (2013); “Midwinter Night” (2012 & 2013) and “Winter Light” (2014) on winter rituals from the Carpathians; “Capitan John Smith Goes to Ukraine” (2014); “Underground Dreams” (2013-2014) and “Hitting Bedrock” (2015) about the war in Ukraine; “Dark Night, Bright Stars” about Taras Shevchenko’s meeting with Ira Aldridge; and “1917-2017: Tychyna Zhadan & the Dogs” (2016-2017), about urban warfare. In 2019 he worked on “Opera GAZ” and “Koliada on Mars” (2019). All of these shows premiered at La MaMa in New York and performed in Toronto, Vienna, Lviv, Odessa, Kyiv and Kharkiv.
He has received two nominations for outstanding innovative design (2011) & (2017) from the New York Innovative Theatre Awards.
