TOMTE

(gnome)

designed and performed by Tom Lee

storyteller Lisa Gonzales

adapted from "The Tomten" by Astrid Lindgren

from a poem by Victor Rydberg

Tomte is a Swedish gnome who looks after a family and their farm, though they never see him.

On a cold winter night, Tomte teaches us about the importance of kindness and looking after all living things.

Tom Lee is a puppeteer, designer and director. He appeared in the original Broadway cast of War Horse and has performed puppetry at the Metropolitan Opera (Madama Butterfly) and New York Philharmonic (Le Grand Macabre, Petrushka). Mr. Lee has worked extensively with Japanese traditional puppet forms and his production Shank’s Mare with fifth generation master puppeteer Koryu Nishikawa enters its fifth year of touring this year with performances at Musée du Quai Branly in Paris. Tom Lee is co-director of the Chicago Puppet Studio with Blair Thomas.
